Kant’s Modal Asymmetry between Truth-Telling and Lying Revisited

چکیده
The modal asymmetry between truth-telling and lying refers to the impossibility of a world in which everyone lies, while on contrary, tells truth is possible. This ethical issue relevant modern concerns about epistemic security, or safety knowledge. breakdown security leads erosion trust and, hence, an ‘impossible’ since willingness believe others essential for functioning society. Here, we examine threat disinformation using individual-based model individuals are both senders receivers signals characterized by their credulity deceptiveness, targets natural selection. possible worlds those favored Lies that significantly harm believers lead Kantian scenario: completely eroded winners evolutionary race incredulous. However, if lies not too harmful, our game predicts credulous mildly untruthful. These two separated discontinuous phase transition limit infinite population size.

Lying and truth-telling in children: from concept to action.
Although there has been extensive research on children's moral knowledge about lying and truth-telling and their actual lie- or truth-telling behaviors, research to examine the relation between these two is extremely rare. This study examined one hundred and twenty 7-, 9-, and 11-year-olds' moral understanding of lies and their actual lying behaviors in a politeness situation. Results revealed ...
متن کاملLiving the categorical imperative: autistic perspectives on lying and truth telling-between Kant and care ethics.
Lying is a common phenomenon amongst human beings. It seems to play a role in making social interactions run more smoothly. Too much honesty can be regarded as impolite or downright rude. Remarkably, lying is not a common phenomenon amongst normally intelligent human beings who are on the autism spectrum. They appear to be 'attractively morally innocent' and seem to have an above average moral ...

Supply chains are often in an environment where the demand is affected by the retailer’s sales effort and the supplier has no accurate information about the retailer’s cost. In this situation, the retailer’s action of distorting his cost information could damage the efficiency of the supply chain. In order to reduce the resulted impairment, the problem of how to coordinate the retailer’s action...

The present study examined the neural correlates of evaluations of both lying and truth-telling in different social contexts using fMRI methodology. The results demonstrated the differentiation between lying and truth-telling and between different types of lying in a network of brain regions. These regions included bilateral superior frontal gyrus (SFG), bilateral inferior parietal lobule (IPL)...
متن کاملTelling Truth from Correlation
This work is motivated by a question at the heart of unsupervised learning approaches: Assume we are collecting a number K of (subjective) opinions about some event E from K different agents. Can we infer E from them? Prima facie this seems impossible, since the agents may be lying. We model this task by letting the events be distributed according to some distribution p and the task is to estim...
